Lash lifts are becoming insanely popular – and we can see why. Often described as a perm for your eyelashes, they give you volume and a curl before you add mascara. It’s a pretty low maintenance process too, but with amazing results. In short – low effort, high reward.

Whether you are someone who wants to wake up later in the morning and forgo makeup all together, or if you want your lash lift you enhance your full glam look, this is everything you need to know.

What Is A Lash Lift?

A lash lift curls your eyelash from the bottom to the top so you can see its full length. Essentially, it’s like using a really effective eyelash curler. You’re semi-permanently altering the shape of your eyelash so it has a voluminous look.

The magic happens using a mini curling rod and lifting solution. Here’s what you can expect:

  • Treatments begin with a consultation to determine what kind of lash style you’re after so our Beauty Pros can pick the suitable curling rod size
  • After cleansing the eye area, a silicone rod is placed onto the eyelids and the natural lashes are curled over and attached with an adhesive
  • When everything is positioned correctly, two lotions are applied – first, a lifting lotion so the lashes mould around the curling rod, then a setting lotion that sets the lash shape. It will look a little something like this:

How Long Does A Lash Lift Last?

You can expect your lash lift to last for around four to eight weeks. And if – like us – you become hooked on lash lifts, booking a repeat appointment every month is a good idea.

The exact timing does of course all depend on how quickly your lashes grow and also how careful you are in the first 24 hours after your appointment. For the best results, it’s crucial that you avoid wetting them for the first 24 hours after your appointment. Just like a real perm, the bond needs time to set – let’s not forget the wisdom of Elle Woods in Legally Blonde. And while you can wear mascara if you have a lash lift, you should avoid doing so for a couple of days after your treatment.

How Much Is A Lash Lift?

Lash lifts from our pros in the UK typically cost between £30 and £60. Often that price includes a tint too, as it’s a really popular combination that fetches fabulous results! You get the lift first and then the tint.

Naturally, it depends on where you go for the service, but lash lifts are typically very reasonable. So, go on and treat yourself!

Do always make sure you visit an experienced, licensed professional though – if your appointment is costing any less than £30, you should ask to see a certificate. All our Pros on Beautystack are qualified like Nicola.

Lash Lift vs Extensions

A lash lift is a natural enhancement of your own lashes, whereas lash extensions involve fixing individual false lashes to your own with adhesive. If you’re looking for a natural look, we’d recommend the lift. If you want to stand out, extensions are the way to go.

Another fundamental difference is extensions can need maintenance as little as two weeks in. If you don’t have time for infills and want a more hands-off approach to your lashes, lift will be a better fit. Extension appointments also take longer and tend to be more expensive, as Pros have to pay for the materials.

If you do opt for the lift, you might find you’re tempted by extensions though. Our Pros often find that lash lifts are a fab way to introduce clients to extensions. Check out these classic lash extensions by @thepalettelondon:

How Long Does A Lash Lift Take?

A lash lift takes approximately one hour. You’ll have to lie still with your eyes shut for the whole time so kick back and relax. 60 minutes later and your eyes will be popping!

It’s worth noting that if you’ve never had a lash lift before, many salons require a patch test 48 hours before your appointment to ensure you don’t have a reaction to the solutions used. This shouldn’t take more than 15 minutes.
